Shipping boxes are the outer layer. Their first job is structural: hold weight, resist crush, survive a drop, and stack on a pallet without collapsing. Their second job is to look like it came from you and not from a generic warehouse.
The standard construction is the regular slotted container, with four flaps top and bottom, taped closed. It is the cheapest strong box there is, and for anything heavy or oddly shaped it is the right answer. Where budget allows, a one- or two-colour flexo print on kraft gives you brand presence at a fraction of the cost of full-colour litho.
The number that matters most is the edge crush test rating. Under-spec the ECT and you save a few cents per box and pay for it in damage claims. We spec board grade against your actual product weight and distribution route rather than defaulting to the cheapest option.

What is ECT and what rating do I need?
Edge crush test measures how much stacking pressure a board can take before it fails. 32 ECT is the general-purpose standard for parcels up to about 65 lb. Heavier goods, palletised freight or long storage want 44 ECT or double-wall. We spec it against your actual product weight.
Can I print full colour on a shipping box?
Yes, via litho lamination, where a printed sheet is bonded to the corrugated. It looks excellent but costs meaningfully more. For most shipping boxes a one- or two-colour flexo print directly on kraft gives you brand recognition at a far better cost per unit.
